To improve image 2, I decided to go out and buy some feathers, because my other attempt to find replacement sounds were not working because the objects sounded too thick, so I bought a feather boa and recorded sounds from the full thing and the small feathers th...

(00:00-00:10)                                                               (00:11-00:18)                                                                      (00:19-00:23) For these sounds I decided to go outside and try and find some sounds for my second image. I tried to look at plants in particular because the sounds of leaves I thought would be light enough to re-produce the light sounds I'm looking for, unfortunately I found some of the sounds to either be too thick and rubbery for the audio or the background noise to be too dominate in the recording that I couldn't hear a lot of the sounds, I think I will try and incorporate some of the bir...

I have been trying to concentrate more on image two as it's the image I have the less confidence in and also the one that I have collected the less sounds for. I have been struggling with it because of the light feathers so I have been struggling to find a sound that can fit it and suit the electric sound so I was hoping to find, so I might just use the cushion sounds and try and add an electric effect on Adobe Audition to make it more otherworldly. But I also want to try and collect some more lighter sounds, maybe leaves...

Adobe Audition: Alien at the Beach

Image
For this lesson we had to experiment with sounds and audio. For mine I decided to look at a Jackson Pollock painting, and created a water sound in the background, while also editing the voice so it added a more spooky effect to the piece. A lot of this was purely experimental and I didn't plan for the audio or the create sound to end up like that, so I had to adapt my image as well too suit the changes I had made.

Sound Experiment 04

Image
Today I decided to record some more natural sounds, this time seeing how the sound of wind would sound through a window before I recorded it outside, as I think the slight whistling noise through the window would make it sound more interesting, I am planning on collecting more natural sounds, but I wanted to see how it would sound before I progressed onwards in case the background noise was too much in comparison to the wind and ruined it.  For the second sound for my second image, I wanted to continue to find something more sharper so I tried to record the sound of cactus spikes, particularly if I ran my fingers through it, as it makes a very sharp, high pitched sound that I think could work better, especially if I could replicate the sound to reflect the more smaller portions of the image.  Lastly I wanted to try and collect a more electronic sound for image one, to match its sharp, electric colours so I wanted to start by recording a microwave, as I thought ...

Sound Experiment 03

Image
For this sound experiment I decided to try and find inspiration from the outside world, of which I found a typewriter and recorded someone pretending to type on it to get the different clicking sounds and the deep metal sound it makes, which I liked and thought would be useful for my third image. I think with some editing though Audition, I could see how to make it incorporate with the other natural sounds I recorded.  Next I deiced to record this hairbrush, because the bristles where fine enough that I felt it could suit my second image better than the audio I collected of flicking through book pages instead, I think I would like to go and collect some more audio for it, as it's a bit limited and  would like to get some more to show the layers of the image. Lastly I wanted to get some audio for image one so I decided to stick with the water theme and get some bubble sounds to replicate the bubble like things within the image, I recorded two sounds, one that w...

Sound: Experiment 02

Image
Continuing on with my sound experiments, I decided to look into other sounds like the laundry pods made yesterday, so I decided to try something my organic like a fruit, so I tried peeling and crushing some grapefruit to see how the sound would play out. I tried using a potato masher, but the metal ring kept clanging against the bowl as well as the base being flat meant the sound was very flat as well, so I ended up crushing the fruit in my hands which I found more effective and diverse.  I then also moved onto trying more water effects, so I ended up filling a hot water bottle and pressing against it with my hands so the water would move around, which I also found effective for the sound of rippling water for my first image.  Lastly I wanted to try and collect some sounds for my second image, which is more feathery in design, so I tried as a base to flicker through a book to get the effect of the rustling feathers, but the sound ended up being to familiar to mov...

Sound: Experiment 01

Image
Starting off my sound for my images I tried to keep it basic at first, looking at water sounds for my first image, listening to how the water sounds when poured or moved around with different objects, to match up with the image and see how I would like to progress onwards, this starting point has certainly given me some ideas for how to progress and develop the sounds. I also ended up using these to make some sounds for my third image, I wanted to create a solid, but soft sound so I decided to start with laundry capsules, and rub them together in my hands, which because of the sensitivity of the recorder, ended up a bit more muffled, so I think I need to find something more squishy, like a crushed fruit or slime and see how that would work or if I could mix it together.

Adobe Audition: Sound Mixing and Manipulating

Image
For this lesson, we got the chance to experiment with sound and Adobe After Effects again, for mine I tried to create some sounds for my images, but ended up manipulating the sound to create something else and see where it would take me, I used the sound from an object I made as well as from puling someones back to make a heartbeat sound. I used a lot of echoes and volume manipulation in my final edit to make the final sound, I liked how it created a space where there wasn't none, while the rhythmic material pulling sound added repetition to the developing background noises.

Adobe Audition: Sound Experiment 01- Siren and Interview

Image
Today we got to have a play through Adobe Audition and get to grips with editing software within the program, first by editing out background noise like static and buzzing and also sirens that may crop up in audio for our project. I had a lot of fun with this, especially figuring out the mechanics and seeing how good I could get the audio after improvements, I still feel like I have a long way to go, but I am intrigued with how using this software will pan out in making the audio for the 3 images later and learning how to edit more using the software.
