Fantastic Voyage: Animation Progress and Lip Syncing

Image
Started on some of my scenes including one with my Finches and using the voice actor audio of my script as a guide I have started lip syncing the character to the audio. I'm still working out the transitions between the other models, and how I'm going to have it flow between them while the models keep talking as well, hopefully I should be able to create a smooth looking scene soon that has at least too of the models switching out within the scene, this switch will also be altered in Premier Pro later on when I have render the scenes to make it look more smooth in the final piece.

Fantastic Voyage: Texturing Finished

Image
Finished all the texturing for the tortoises, I decided to continue on with the illustrative style I used for the Finches on the tortoises, taking the designs I saw on their shells and putting them in a stylised way so it would suit the lack of shading on them. I also decided to shrink the size of the Finch to suit a more real Finch, so people wouldn't confuse it for another bird because of its size, this will also cause some issues in the animation, as my storyboard had the Finch being bigger, making it easier to do certain things, so I also will be experimenting with shots and angels as I go.

Fantastic Voyage: Finch Texture Update

Image
Started getting some textures done on all my Finch models, I did this by picking a standard shader and using that as the base to draw details on over the top to accentuate wings on the feathers and bits of the body. Because of this I have decided to not add any shading on my textures as it would separate the ones I did on photoshop to the shader colour and I want the Finches to look as consistent as possible. They do still need some tweaking, especially on the wings, but so far I think it looks good.

Fantastic Voyage: Test Render with Finch and Colour

Image
Managed to re-install the color into the trees and import one my Finch models, I'm happy with how it turned out, however I still think the appearance is too glossy and want to try and tone it down to suit the environment, also the background ocean doesn't match the ocean color so I'm going to do some improvements as well.

Fantastic Voyage: Plain Scene Test Render With Tortoises

Image
Some final renders for my scene, I am still struggling to get the textures to appear on my laptop, so I decided to go with a plain render for the bigger models, just to get and idea of size and how they will turn out. I am happy with the layout, but I still think the scene needs some tweaking, which I will be doing as well as applying textures while I wait for my Finch characters audio to come through, so I will be using this time to prepare for the final animation instead and getting to grips with animating within the scene. I have already set up a blend shape on one of the tortoises, which will probably be the only other creature moving in the scene, as the others will serve as filler for the scene to make the island seem more inhabited.  I only have one Saddleback rigged and skinned, and this one will be paired with the Finch as it moves along towards the tree.

Fantastic Voyage: Mouth Movement and Animation Test

Image
Managed to get the mouth and face moving together, ready for the lip synch and animation. The process to do this took a long time and involved using the connection editor and the blend shape, but I did have some problems connecting it to the head and the animation while also still connecting it to the attribute. One issue I did notice is with this last Finch model that I think I caused from cleaning up the joints earlier on I ended up deleting a ball joint and disconnecting the lumbar, neck and shoulder joint but despite this the figures still moves well I think thanks to the weight distribution and binding still keeps it together so I'm going to keep going with it and see if it still works because I need to move on.

Fantastic Voyage: Finch 03 Skinning Update

Image
Finished basic maintenance for this Finch, I don't think I will be weighing the open armed Finch because of edits to the script, so I will stick with what I have now and settle to get the mouth and eyes moving for the scene, as well as getting some advice on any clean up for the animation, as I have done what I can but some of the lines on the middle of the Finch when it bends will become more noticeable when I render it, so cleaning them up might be my next step and adding on textures.
