Maya Coloured Car

Image
Completed my car design, complete with colour, texturing and rendered final image. I finally think I am getting the hang of Maya, although I will need to practice a bit more. The car was completed with a plastic texture, rubber wheels, glass headlights and windows.

Bouncing Ball Animation

Image
Experimented with size and weight by trying to animate bouncing balls, one was a cartoon bouncing ball and the other was a bowling ball, of which I tried to bend the base to show the weight off the ball, however I don't think I quite captured the weight effectively- I think I needed to be more dramatic with the base and have shorter frame rates for it. The smaller ball I like a lot more because I think it works more effectively and captures the cartoon effect well.

Life Drawing 01

Image
I had a lot of fun doing the life drawing class, and experimenting with different materials and sizes. I started the lesson with pencil, however I decided to move onto charcoal after a while and I found that I prefer it to draw quickly and more dynamically. In the next lesson, I would like to try concentrating more on accuracy rather than speed, so focusing on certain areas of the model to improve drawing anatomy better.

Invisible Cities: Baucis

Image
One of the cities and eyes, I experimented with different media to portray Baucis before finally deciding that traditional pencil and paper would be faster and more effective in portraying the thumbnails. I also used an influence map, as I was struggling with the concept of the city, which defiantly helped speed up my deigns.

Invisible Cities: Thekla

Image
One of the cities and the sky, I struggled composing Thekla which is why there are less thumbnails compared to the rest, however the layering scaffolding aspect I did find intriguing enough to explore, layering modern and old scaffolding to present the passing of time that for the city and its inhabitants.

Invisible Cities: Tamara

Image
One of the cities and signs, at this point in my thumbnails I was struggling to differentiate my thumbnails visually, so I decided to alter the location Tamara for a hillside instead of a traditional flat surface. This was to try and challenge myself to adapt to the different surface and see how the comparison of the city description and the raised surface could still be translated effectively.

Invisible Cities: Armilla

Image
One of the thin cities, I originally struggled drawing this city digitally and so moved onto drawing it with pencil and paper, which I enjoyed considerably a more because I could portray the heavy pipe work and buildings well.

Invisible Cities: Moriana

Image
One of the cities with eyes, after drawing Moriana I have decided that I might also continue on developing this city as well, as I found that I related more to its descriptions of pediments and columns in relation to my interest in Ancient Greek architecture and mythology.

Black and White Photoshop Images

Image
To help with thumbnail concept design's we experimented with using three shades to re-create a film image. I had some initial trouble with the polygonal lasso tool when composing the images, however I am happy with what I have created, especially since we only had three shades to use.

Invisible Cities: Isaura

Image
One of the thin cities, I tried to imagine Isaura as a floating city, while also making the houses more round and remote to accommodate for the location. Isaura was defiantly the city I had the most fun constructing and will be developing for the rest of my project, although I would like to develop more inside the buildings and around the construction of the city before moving onto the development of these ideas, as I don't think I have made that clear enough within these concepts.

Invisible Cities: Esmeralda.

Image
One of the trading cities, when I was drawing Esmeralda I decided to switch from trying to balance digital and pencil concept drawing, to just pencil drawing to conserve time, of which I think defiantly helped with my progression through the rest of the project. Esmeralda was also the first city I felt most inspired to draw, although I don't think I will progress Esmeralda onto my final design.

Invisible Cities: Leonia.

Image
One of the continuous cities, I decided to construct Leonia with the idea of an oblivious neighbourhood being loomed over by the heap of rubbish that they create everyday. This was one of the cities that I didn't feel I needed a inspiration board for and that I found the easiest to construct, however I didn't feel like finishing my ideas as I was more inspired by some of the other cities.

MAYA: Brick Copying and Sizing.

Image
Second Maya lesson where we developed on the bricks we built in the first lesson to build up to eventually creating a Lego car. I managed to find this lesson easier then before, although I think a bit of personal time looking at MAYA will help me improve faster and feel more confident using the software on my own.
