Sound Experiment 03

Image
For this sound experiment I decided to try and find inspiration from the outside world, of which I found a typewriter and recorded someone pretending to type on it to get the different clicking sounds and the deep metal sound it makes, which I liked and thought would be useful for my third image. I think with some editing though Audition, I could see how to make it incorporate with the other natural sounds I recorded.  Next I deiced to record this hairbrush, because the bristles where fine enough that I felt it could suit my second image better than the audio I collected of flicking through book pages instead, I think I would like to go and collect some more audio for it, as it's a bit limited and  would like to get some more to show the layers of the image. Lastly I wanted to get some audio for image one so I decided to stick with the water theme and get some bubble sounds to replicate the bubble like things within the image, I recorded two sounds, one that was more at

Character Design: Objects, Location and Anthropomorphic

Image
In this lesson we designed objects to an assigned character, so I ended up planning objects for a Cyber Hacker, which I wanted at first to be an ambiguous hacker, who might also be selfish. In the end I ended up creating something more childish, with a small robot companion and keychain. We also designed a shop for the hacker to live in, which I pictured would be small, and cramped with an alleyway to insinuate a darker side of the hackers job. I also had to put faces on objects, so was assigned an attic and I ended up making anthropomorphic tape recorders and old TV's.

Context 200 Review: Mind Map 03- High-Rise, SnowPiercer and Capitalism.

Image
After realising that my question for my review was too closed off, I decided to try looking at some more open questions that could explore broader topics, so rather than "Which film portrays Capitalism better?", I'm going to try and look at something like "How does the publication dates the High-Rise and Snowpericer effect the portrayal of Capitalism?". I think I will aim to look at both films, as well as High-Rises original book adaption to see how they have been adapted to suit the time difference, but I will look at other quotes from other sources to reference before I read the book, so I can get a more diverse selection.

Sound: Experiment 02

Image
Continuing on with my sound experiments, I decided to look into other sounds like the laundry pods made yesterday, so I decided to try something my organic like a fruit, so I tried peeling and crushing some grapefruit to see how the sound would play out. I tried using a potato masher, but the metal ring kept clanging against the bowl as well as the base being flat meant the sound was very flat as well, so I ended up crushing the fruit in my hands which I found more effective and diverse.  I then also moved onto trying more water effects, so I ended up filling a hot water bottle and pressing against it with my hands so the water would move around, which I also found effective for the sound of rippling water for my first image.  Lastly I wanted to try and collect some sounds for my second image, which is more feathery in design, so I tried as a base to flicker through a book to get the effect of the rustling feathers, but the sound ended up being to familiar to moving paper, rat

Sound: Experiment 01

Image
Starting off my sound for my images I tried to keep it basic at first, looking at water sounds for my first image, listening to how the water sounds when poured or moved around with different objects, to match up with the image and see how I would like to progress onwards, this starting point has certainly given me some ideas for how to progress and develop the sounds. I also ended up using these to make some sounds for my third image, I wanted to create a solid, but soft sound so I decided to start with laundry capsules, and rub them together in my hands, which because of the sensitivity of the recorder, ended up a bit more muffled, so I think I need to find something more squishy, like a crushed fruit or slime and see how that would work or if I could mix it together.

Adobe Audition: Sound Mixing and Manipulating

Image
For this lesson, we got the chance to experiment with sound and Adobe After Effects again, for mine I tried to create some sounds for my images, but ended up manipulating the sound to create something else and see where it would take me, I used the sound from an object I made as well as from puling someones back to make a heartbeat sound. I used a lot of echoes and volume manipulation in my final edit to make the final sound, I liked how it created a space where there wasn't none, while the rhythmic material pulling sound added repetition to the developing background noises.

Script to Screen: Story Layout 01

Image
After a conversation and some more thought I have finally managed to narrow down the mind maps into two story ideas that I think I can work with. I'm happy that I managed to draw away from the setting being in a prison that I felt made the idea feel generic and easy, whereas with these ideas I feel I can manipulate the layout or the tone to see how it effects the final piece, although I still have a way to go with characters, conflict, story layout and ending. Feedback is still appreciated.

Script to Screen: Mind Map 02

Image
I took on board some feedback from my last mind map and tried to broaden out with some more ideas to see how the story could go, I'm still not certain how the story will go, but I have a couple that i could develop, but feedback would appreciated so I could get an idea of what ideas work.
