Character Design: Storyboards

Image
This lesson we looked at storyboards and how they are played out for future reference. For the first one I looked at a scene from a film and laid it out in storyboard format understand it better, so for mine I looked at the Leap of Faith scene from Spiderman Into the Spider-verse and from what I made I feel that I learned a little more about scene layout and how much information I need to put in a scene in order for it to work and tell the bones of the story that I would want to tell and it was nice to see if through some already accomplished work and I feel has allowed me to understand better how to use storyboards properly. We also had to transfer those skills into a storyboard to tell a chase scene and I feel I did an okay job, although I did struggle in the beginning to figure out how to show the tension on the page.

Emo Juliette  Burnham G "Captain Fantastic" Looking at the five out of ten children I got assigned to develop, I have started storyboarding the three that I am most comfortable with at this point and feel that can applied to the final story. The two at the top I feel are going to be fairly long and especially the top one might have some editing added in the final story to divide up the time and make the scene more funny, while the last one will be fairly short and quick, so it can be a fast gag to break up some of the other, longer gags. I still have at this point two more storyboards to do, with one characters story being changed to it might take a bit longer to create.

Heres my final Storyboard for my new Fantastic Voyage animation, this will be my used as a guide for my Pre-Viz which I will use to include sound cues and my voice actor, I tried to keep it short because theres a lot of dialogue in my script, so I tried to keep some continuous shots to one frame and only make the more difficult ones longer. Some scenes from my script I tweaked a bit more visual comedy, especially for the tortoise who's silent in the film, so I wanted them to have more scenes where the Finch isn't aware of it, to make the long scenes with dialogue more interesting and fun.

Character Design: Storyboard Practice

Image
For this character design workshop we got to have an experiment with storyboarding as well as some last minute character design using Jetpack Jones. For the storyboarding we were assigned a location and put into groups, so for my one we were located in cyberpunk New York and had to one with a side character being tormented by the villain, so to show the location we opened up with a zoom into the Statue for Liberty where the tormenting is going on and then have the side kick escape the villain by jumping off the statue. I felt this exercise was helpful and I learned a lot about how to compose shots and save time for progressing onto my animatic.
